I don’t know about you, but Advent leaves me with a mess of an inventory that I slowly work my way through! Baby Monkey had a delightful suite of gifts for Advent 2016, including the lovely Raffaela sweater dress and boots.

You’ve seen me with .wound‘s ribbon choker before — it’s one of my favourite pieces. It comes in three different HUD-driven palettes — vibrant, dark (shown) and a neutrals. Each one comes with unscripted and RLV versions. Unfortunately, while the RLV version works, it’s an older RLV script and is not updateable. Nevertheless, this is the best ribbon I’ve found!
The high suede boots have a lovely little shroud at the heel. Maybe not practical in the snowy slush… but oooo so cute!

Take a look on flickr for a few more images, including my favourites. If you’re not a member of Baby Monkey you should definitely free up a group slot. Over the past few years I have loved watching Pixie’s creations keep getting better and better!
Newness for your inner geek! Let your nerdiness take over the ‘verse! Jadziyah at Eclectic Stars has some sweet mesh leggings for you! They’re maybe not the warmest for the winter, those are triangular cutouts! They’re fun and just a little cheeky.
Who wouldn’t want to be warm and snuggly in a hoodie like this? 8-bit graphics and a zipper down just so. Perfect for a tease of a t-shirt underneath… or just a little skin. Or even better, a pendant that that Daleks would surely love to get their hands on — a lovely little treat from the Harambee Gwassi-Kenya Charity Shop, complete with matching earrings.
Two lovely little winter treats for you today — a beautiful little snowflakes jumper and some amazing jewelry from Earthstones! The jumper is an older one group gift from Calamitous Intent, but is a favourite for the cold winter months.
Calamitous Intent — December Hooded Cardigan (group gift from a year or two ago! eep!)
I’ll readily admit, I love sparkle. Not cheezy bling, but beautiful sparkling lights. So when I saw the beautiful Twinkling Lights jewelry at Earthstones, I completely fell in love. There is a necklace, earrings, bracelet and anklet, sold separately so you can choose what you love. I love them all!
As you might expect, Twinkling Lights is a little script-heavy, but it’s not bad — just be warned that if you are on a heavy-traffic sim (a busy club?) and they monitor scripts, you might be up high on the board 🙂 BUT the sparkle is beautiful, and I’ve been wearing it mostly non-stop since I got it!
Wherever you are this holiday season, however you celebrate this time of year, I wish you happiness and light. Mele Kalikimaka me ka Hau’oli Makahiki Hou!
You know that bit where you find a creator that gets you? Someone who understands your style? I’ll admit I’m lucky to be sponsored by a number of such wonderful artists here on the blog, but let me squee a little bit about Eclectic Stars.
8-bit Christmas is a lovely version of Eclectic Stars‘ Shifty dress. I do so love a sweaterdress and tights in the cold months! I’m even more amused because the 8-bit-style images both evoke the `old’ days of computer graphics… but also fit in just fine with sweater graphics limitations!
I hope wherever you are that your season is filled with bright lights and starry skies… and friends and family surrounding you.
And… as a friend pointed out to me… some of the rest of us need to always know — ʻaʻole ʻoe e hoʻokahi wale nō, ʻaʻole ʻoe e poina ʻia. You are not alone, you are not forgotten.
Mmmms ,warm and snug and still sexy for the winter? Yes, please! I love a sweater and tights, and Alaska Metro <3 has the lovely Heather sweater dress in 6 colours! It’s hard to beat a nice form-fitting sweaterdress in the cooler months.
It’s a while since I’ve posted something from one of my fav shoe stores, namely Baby Monkey. I was over there looking at group gifts and on the member’s specials board was this lovely daisy print dress and matching platforms with both the dress and the shoes at L$10 each. I had to grab them 🙂
The dress and shoes both have HUDs for nine textures each, plus you can change the metal for the buckles on the shoes. I really like this version, which fits my color range 🙂
The dress comes in standard mesh sizes, plus fitmesh for (takes a deep breath) Belleza Venus, Freya, and Isis, Slink Physique and Hourglass, Maitreya, and TMP. And the platforms have versions for Slink, Belleza, and TMP.
The Fantasy Faire has only a few more days left, but that’s still plenty of time to take advantage of some of the wonderful deals. Blue Moon Enterprises has a lovely gown blouse and skirt combination available in four different batik textures for the ladies: the lovely Saoirse. The all-mesh keyhole top and skirt are independently selectable, and come in the five standard sizes. There’s also a separate tiara and belt (sold as a combination). They’re only available at the Faire here!
Blue Moon Enterprises – Saoirse blouse and skirt (exclusive for Fantasy Faire 2016 benefiting Relay for Life)
Blue Moon Enterprises – Saoirse crown and belt (exclusive for Fantasy Faire 2016 benefiting Relay for Life)
Luminesse – Sea Turtle earrings (Purple, blue, green agate in different images)
The two purple shots here are the Saoirse “orchid”.
The “Amber” texture is a lovely earthy green.
The lovely “Aqua” (again with tiara and belt) is a beautiful light blue with green and lavender tones.
“Peridot” is a second green option, a bit brighter than the “Amber”. Again, without the tiara and belt, it becomes a lovely more casual outfit, accentuated by the unbraided Katie from Calico.
Please remember, all proceeds from the Fantasy Faire benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. It’s quite a noble cause, and every bit helps.
The Wizard robe is slink fitmesh. I had to alpha out arms, but that’s easy, and the result is gorgeous. Did I mention I love purple?
Okay, so what about the hat? Hats are such a royal PITA in SL, but they’re not impossible – and some hats are worth the work. If you’re comfortable – or willing – to try editing hair, you can make them work. If you haven’t tried it, here are a few basic ideas for making hats work.
Find hair that is small/tight to the head. Depending on the look you’re going for – the type of hat – this might be sufficient. I couldn’t get too small of a hair with this, I wanted something long. Calico‘s ‘Katie 1’ (left) was exactly the style I needed/wanted to flow out from beneath the hat, but you can see in the centre image that the curls up top would not work with the hat. So, time to edit!
MAKE A COPY OF THE HAIR. I tell you three times, and what I tell you three times is true: MAKE A COPY OF THE HAIR. DON’T SKIP THIS STEP.
DID YOU MAKE A COPY OF THE HAIR?
If you’re using this hair for other things, then make sure you now use the copy, not the original. If you can rename it, do so, otherwise throw this copy into the folder with the hat that you’re going to use it for.
Wear both the hat and the hair, and go into a pose stand.
I wanted to have both my bangs AND the tresses in back. I resized the hair down as much as I could first — I didn’t need to worry too much about not having enough hair out the back (there was plenty), but I wanted to make sure I had my bangs in front. So I resized down 10 percent or so, and adjusted the hair forward to make sure that the front looked good. Now, WITHOUT the hat on, my scalp was showing on top of and in spots on the back of my head – but the hat will cover that well, and leave the hair flowing out from underneath the brim behind.
Here’s where things get complicated. right-click on the hair, and select ‘edit’ from the circle menu. There is a little box next to the words ‘edit linked’. Check this box. DO NOT UNLINK THE HAIR! You will need to start all over if you do, and you’ll make a gynormous mess.
Select individual curls on top of the head. If you can delete them outright, do so – I could not with the calico hair, but I could move them in and down. That means there are a bunch of curls inside my head, but no one can see them. This is a lengthy trial-and-error process, depending on the complexity of the hair. For Katie 1, there are a bunch of static curls to move, plus some flexi pieces. The flexi pieces aren’t sticking up too much, but be careful with these – these are the top ends of those tresses that we want to keep. I just slide them down and slightly in until they disappear. In effect, I’m just trying to drop them down the length of the tress, if that makes any sense.
Back up your cam and look around your head a lot. Check both sides – when you move a curl from one side in, it may shove out the other side!
And that’s really about it. When you move around, flexi tresses may flutter beyond the brim – but I’m not too worried about that. I can forgive a few sins during motion. I think that it really can be worth the work to get a nice hat to work.
I hope that’s useful. Good luck! Oh! Did I mention? MAKE A COPY OF YOUR HAIR FIRST! 😀
This is a fantastic hunt, and not to be missed. Head over to the hunt start, and visit Blue Moon! It is a kind of magic!
Ohhh, I’m a horrible tease, and I apologise in advance – but more on that at the end of this.
You may have noticed, I’m a bit of a sucker for medieval or faerie-inspired clothing. I accumulate far more than I can ever wear, but that doesn’t stop me! Last week’s group gift from The White Armory is a wonderful addition to my wardrobe. The Maiden of E’na Dorei gown is fitmesh, with add-on flexi sleeves.
The fitmesh is designed for the standard SL avatar, and not the Physique or Lara. Nevertheless, it fit my Physique body quite well, with just a little use of the alpha zones.
I love the details, they really make any outfit of this nature! Now, why am I a tease? Because I just found out that The White Armory changes their group gifts frequently, so this lovely item is no longer offered. What’s the moral, then? Make them one of your regular stops! You’ll hate to miss out on their next one! So please stop by and take a look.
