Mirrors!

Back in 2016, I faked a mirror in SL with photographic post processing trickery.  It didn’t look that great, but at the time, there were no real mirrors in any virtual world (or any video game) as far as I knew.  Now SL has real time, dynamic mirrors!

Currently, mirrors are only supported in the official SL viewer, however, as I compile Firestorm for myself, and the “Materials Featurette” release was just merged into Firestorm’s source code repository, here’s a first look from the upcoming Firestorm!

As you can see, while impressive (it’s even more impressive when you see it update in real time!), it’s still not perfect.  There are obvious “bevel” effects around the edges.  Before I blame FS/SL for this too much, I must note that this is the first mirror I’ve created and I understand that there might be some level of fiddling with the reflection probe to get it to look just right.

But never mind the imperfections, it’s here, and it’s amazing 🙂

Update: Resizing the reflection probe eliminated the bevel effect.

So yes, play around with these to get the hang of them.  Also do realize that mirrors are expensive in terms of performance.  I run frame limited at 75 FPS (which I hit all the time in the upcoming FS) and switching Mirror Resolution to 2048 in graphics preferences dropped my framerate to 17 FPS.

The best intentions…

I had planned to do all 24 days of the Advent calendars I told you about… Unfortunately my PC didn’t get the message and decided to have a major software conniption on Friday.  I’ve just spent the entire weekend reinstalling the operating system and restoring from backup.  This was not only frustrating because I couldn’t get to SL to get the calendar gifties, but the weekend happened to be one of the nicest we’ve seen for a while weather-wise, and I was stuck inside 🙁

DRG

I’ve always been a redhead.  I am in real life (although not as outrageously red as I’ve been in SL) and I’ve always been one in SL except for when I was only a few days old.  Oh, and of course I’ve dyed my hair for fashion shoots 🙂

In the first life tab of my profile, I have a photo captioned “Blondes get noticed but redheads are remembered” and the outfit is this logo t-shirt.

Having noticed this, Donia, a friend of mine, decided that I needed the logo on a top in-world, so she made one for me.  Big hugs thanks to her!  As far as I know, Donia doesn’t sell her outfits, so no outfit details today, just a little tribute to friendship and generosity <3

The Autumn Queen

By many reckonings autumn has not yet begun, but for many of us the feeling of change is in the air, and we start looking forward to the turn of summer to fall.  The Sisters of Eden appointed our new queen this past weekend, and our newly-crowned Sister was gracious enough to let me take an hour of her time for photographs.

Ladies and gentlemen, with your permission, let me present to you the Autumn Queen, her royal floofiness, Kie Dagger!

Queen Kie is wearing the Fall edition of the Demeter Gown from Evie’s Closet.  Demeter is rigged mesh in four sizes with add-on flexis to create the gown.  While rigged mesh is a bit old-school these days, flexis are the best way to create a gown that’s good for something other than standing still for a photograph in.  Evie certainly has created some amazing gowns, and this look is absolutely gorgeous.

Queen Kie is the perfect neko.  Her tail and ears from Fluffy Bushy appear to be no longer available, but the whole ensemble (skin, gown, tail & ears and hair) work beautifully to create her elegant look.

There are stressful times as a photographer and there are easy times.  I was very glad that Luane of Luane’s World Poses had already converted her sim to autumn.  Luane’s World is a beautifully decorated group of sims, and it’s the perfect backdrop to many of my photo shoots.

Believe it or not, autumn is one of my favourite times of the year.  There is a special beauty — beyond the brightly coloured leaves, beyond the pumpkin spice everything.    Our lovely Queen embodies that peace and quiet grace.   I wish you all a wonderful Autumn!

Mahalo!  A hui hou kākou!

1500 posts!

That’s right, since September 25th 2015 when we put up Aeon’s article Getting started in Second Life that began its history as a notecard to hand to new girls at Eden, right up to this post number 1500!  We may have been slow some days getting a post up, and other days we’ve doubled up on posts as one of us got the scheduling wrong, but we’re pretty proud of the fact that here we are nearly four years after the start of the blog, and we haven’t missed a day!

So, happy 1500th post to us!  I picked out some of my favorite photos looking back at all the ones we’ve done.  I hope this takes you on a little journey back through time, just like it did me when I put it together.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Jaz!

Technically speaking this is another installment in the Mix and Match series, as this outfit is a total mishmash of pieces and parts… but as half of them are not even sold anymore, we’ll just run with it 🙂

I must have things from about eight or nine different outfits… but it was fun coming up with a unique (and, um, yeah maybe little bit sexy) holiday outfit. The lights even blink!

And just to show you that it’s really Ms. Claus who is running the show, me and the elves are gonna take a little break here from all the gift delivering! Oh, but thanks for the cookies and the milk!

Thank you all for reading the blog, and I hope everyone has a most wonderful holiday time, and a happy year to come, full of love and joy!

Oh, and, pssst, Santa…

Just go ahead and put me on that naughty list, it’s okay. Save everyone a lot of time!

Cheers my sweet friends! <3

A Murder of Crows

November is drawing to a close, but We Love Role Play yet has nearly a week left.  Silvan Moon Designs offers A Murder of Crows this month, a beautiful bustled gown that might be just as at home in Victorian England or in a frontier town in the American Wild West.

The remarkable hat is included in A Murder of Crows.  I don’t know that I’d dance in it, but it’s perfect finery for the era.

Wow what a bustle to this gown.  Baby got back?

I really love this outfit, I think it might well serve as a fantastic base for a great steampunk outfit.  I’ll have to get back to you on that one!

Run over to We Love Role Play before time runs out!  Mahalo!  A hui hou kākou!
