It’s a kind of magic

Solas from Blue Moon Enterprises offers a beautiful set of robes (for men and for women) with a wizard’s hat for the Medieval Fantasy Hunt XV!

wizard_c005

The hunt start is here, and there there is a Medieval Fantasy hunt group for discussion.

The Wizard robe is slink fitmesh.  I had to alpha out arms, but that’s easy, and the result is gorgeous.  Did I mention I love purple?

Okay, so what about the hat?  Hats are such a royal PITA in SL, but they’re not impossible – and some hats are worth the work.  If you’re comfortable – or willing – to try editing hair, you can make them work.  If you haven’t tried it, here are a few basic ideas for making hats work.

wizard_cHair

  1. Find hair that is small/tight to the head.  Depending on the look you’re going for – the type of hat – this might be sufficient.  I couldn’t get too small of a hair with this, I wanted something long.  Calico‘s ‘Katie 1’  (left) was exactly the style I needed/wanted to flow out from beneath the hat, but you can see in the centre image that the curls up top would not work with the hat. So,  time to edit!
  2. MAKE A COPY OF THE HAIR.  I tell you three times, and what I tell you three times is true: MAKE A COPY OF THE HAIR.  DON’T SKIP THIS STEP.
  3. DID YOU MAKE A COPY OF THE HAIR?
  4. If you’re using this hair for other things, then make sure you now use the copy, not the original.  If you can rename it, do so, otherwise throw this copy into the folder with the hat that you’re going to use it for.
  5. Wear both the hat and the hair, and go into a pose stand.
  6. I wanted to have both my bangs AND the tresses in back.  I resized the hair down as much as I could first — I didn’t need to worry too much about not having enough hair out the back (there was plenty), but I wanted to make sure I had my bangs in front.  So I resized down 10 percent or so, and adjusted the hair forward to make sure that the front looked good.  Now, WITHOUT the hat on, my scalp was showing on top of and in spots on the back of my head – but the hat will cover that well, and leave the hair flowing out from underneath the brim behind.
  7. Here’s where things get complicated.  right-click on the hair, and select ‘edit’ from the circle menu.  There is a little box next to the words ‘edit linked’.  Check this box.  DO NOT UNLINK THE HAIR!  You will need to start all over if you do, and you’ll make a gynormous mess.
  8. Select individual curls on top of the head.  If you can delete them outright, do so – I could not with the calico hair, but I could move them in and down.  That means there are a bunch of curls inside my head, but no one can see them.    This is a lengthy trial-and-error process, depending on the complexity of the hair.  For Katie 1, there are a bunch of static curls to move, plus some flexi pieces.  The flexi pieces aren’t sticking up too much, but be careful with these – these are the top ends of those tresses that we want to keep.  I just slide them down and slightly in until they disappear.  In effect, I’m just trying to drop them down the length of the tress, if that makes any sense.
  9. Back up your cam and look around your head a lot.  Check both sides – when you move a curl from one side in, it may shove out the other side!

And that’s really about it.  When you move around, flexi tresses may flutter beyond the brim – but I’m not too worried about that.  I can forgive a few sins during motion.  I think that it really can be worth the work to get a nice hat to work.

I hope that’s useful.  Good luck!  Oh!  Did I mention?  MAKE A COPY OF YOUR HAIR FIRST!  😀

This is a fantastic hunt, and not to be missed. Head over to the hunt start, and visit Blue Moon!  It is a kind of magic!

Myconos

Another group gift today, this time from BlackRose.  The very generous designer has given us two dresses, with two very different textures.  The one I’m wearing here is the black lace version, and there is also a black floral design included as well.

An apple a day….

An apple like this won’t keep this teacher away.  Kerryth from Spyralle has put the Floriade boho dress on special at the Secret Wednesday April Yard Sale!

Now – I know what you’re thinking – “Aeon, we KNOW you are not partial to long mesh dresses, they don’t dance well!  You’ve told us time and time again!”

Well, that’s true.  And Kerryth is a smart cookie, and has added a flexi overskirt that swishes and dances like a dream.
Floriade_c003

Floriade comes in seven mesh sizes and 8 wonderful colours.  You had to know I’d pick green (apple) first.

Floriade_c005

Now, be warned – Kerryth says that Floriade  will be retired soon – so this is your chance to catch this deal before it disappears.   I think that I need to run back to Secret Wednesday for another stunning colour!

Mahalo, and aloha!

Kelly

The group gift from FA Creations this month is this great casual strappy dress in standard mesh sizes.  It comes with a six colour HUD to change the belt colour, and it fits like a dream on my standard small shape with no tweaking yay!

Dazie, Dazie…

Give me your answer do
I’m half crazy all for the love of you

Hmm, does anyone but me hear the slowing voice of HAL when they read those words?

Blue Moon Enterprises offers the exclusive Dazie at the April Fair Play.   Dazie definitely evokes a more elegant age, but is perfectly appropriate with a steampunk theme or just as a casual long dress.

Dazie_c10

Dazie is available in three colour schemes, purple, amber, and teal.  The umbrella is available in the Fair Play Gacha game, and comes with a colour-change HUD to select between the different detail colours.
Dazie_c11

Kudos to Solas for her adoption of fitmesh for the mesh bodies!   I can’t get over how easy it has become for the customer to get the layered look of mesh with a great fit.  I think I’m becoming spoiled.
Dazie_c2

The amber wasn’t my favourite starting out, but may have become so by the time this shoot was completed.

Dazie_c8

And, just for grins, a different hairstyle with the teal, featuring Alli & Ali’s Almeda.
Dazie_c14

Solas made up an extra little treat – there’s a wonderful little matching bag (also with colour-choice HUD) offered as a gift at the Fair Play stall!

Give me your answer, do….

My answer?  A resounding yes!

Haute

I really wanted to do a post just focusing on makeup, but I was a little frustrated in finding a good pose to show off my fancy fake nails.  So rather than doing a lipstick/eyeshadow post that’s over in one sentence, here’s the full outfit…

makeup_003

I haven’t made the jump to a mesh head as yet (none of them look enough like me, especially the eyes), so I still get to use all my old system layer makeup 🙂

Now, a story about the nails for you: Aeon and I were running around at an event some time ago looking at various things when we came across these nails.  I thought they were pretty amazing and went into raptures over them, but I wasn’t keen enough to buy them on the spot.  I tend to want to go look at things in-store and make sure of prices and so on and so forth.  I’m a pretty picky shopper.

So, while I was distracted with something else, Aeon snuck back to the store and bought them for me (just one of the reasons I love her)!  And herein lies the “be a careful shopper” lesson: the “nails” were in reality a texture set for ZOZ mesh nails, which at the time I didn’t have.  And you can’t blame either of us: the advertisement in the store gave no indication that this was so.  Just a pic of the nails, permissions, a “Slink compatible” indication, and a price.  If I’d visited the store first I would have been familiar with ZOZ and known.  Never mind, as you can see, I ended up getting the nail base, and oh, I do still love the little corset textures on them!

I hope you like the rest of the look!

Heat

A daring gown today from Paisley Daisy!  I call this my OMG gown as every time I put it on I go “OMG I can’t believe I’m going to wear this out in public” 🙂

It’s a fantastic little thing to nearly wear, and I guarantee you’ll get comments.  The hair I’m wearing goes a long way to help with my ummm embarrassment level too when wearing this gown, as it’s completely sheer at the breast level.

Raven and Rose

Blue’s post yesterday inspired me… and so rather than going blond today, I thought I’d try something a little.. darker.  Just right, I think, for Mindy, new at Carrie’s Lingerie!

MindyRose_c013_2

MindyRose_c008

Mindy comes in six lovely white-and-pastel combinations, with both standard SL layers and Omega appliers.  All elements are individually selectable!
MindyRose_c004

Hmm, what do you think?  Ginger is certainly me, but I might do better raven than blond?

Stop by and take a look in the New Release pit at Carrie’s Lingerie today, for this and Carrie’s other wonderful offerings!

Spring green

Spring is in full swing and here’s a lovely dress from Pulcino available for free on the Kiyomizu Spring Hunt 2016.  It coming in standard mesh sizings and includes a texture HUD with five pretty spring colours.

A plain dress like this can always stand some fancy jewelry, so I chose to pair it with this lovely orchid set from Beloved, one of my favourite jewelry designers in SL!
