As my grandfather used to say – “Ohh, hello dere”.

I find myself in a colder north than I’m used to this year, and even so it’s a warmer winter then they are used to.  Fortunately, deer are ready for the cold.

Catty Catseye brings us a variant of her new Faun avatar components: a reindeer!  (We’ll review the faun separately later)
The reindeer has components for the standard SL avatar, plus hooves for Slink Physique and Hourglass, Maitreya Lara, Belleza, Solarian, Hella and Kemono avatar components.  WOW!

The reindeer features hooves, antlers, ears, a jinglebell collar, and a cute scripted tail!

Catseye-Reindeer_001Rowena Springflower’s Kelly skirt and top may not be the most ideal clothing choices for the cold winter snow, but they sure do show off the legs and tail of this lovely reindeer avi.  The all-mesh Kelly is a year or so old, but is a lovely treat for summer days, so far away from now – and features Rowena’s colour-change HUD.

A wise person once told me that if you carry your own joy with you in your heart, you will find it wherever you look.  That may be so, I know I carry Blue in my heart wherever I wander.  But I think you need to carry your light with you, too – even in strands of gaily coloured lights.  Mahalo to my sister Ginger for the lovely necklace!

Catty offers her reindeer in two palettes – the earthy “Holly”, festooned with holly leaves and berries in the antlers, and the regal “Snowflake”, with white fur on the legs and icy white antlers, complete with snowflake adornments.

Organic Geometry

I’d like to share one of my favourite artisans in SL, Spyralle.    Kerryth Tarantal at Spyralle uses a lot of fractal- and geometry-inspired textures to produce some stunning designs.  Kerryth manages to beautifully blend mathematics with an organic flow – reminding us of the fractals evident in a fern stem, in a seashore, in lightning.

Esyld is a lovely mesh skirt and top that together make a beautiful gown.  This one in particular appeals to me due to its versatility – it’s equally at home at a ball and in more casual settings.  The outfit is packaged in seven sizes – the standard five plus XS+ and M+, with top and bottom independent to allow you to get the perfect fit to your shape.

My necklace and earrings are from N@N@, who sadly closed their inworld store earlier this year.  They still have a Marketplace link, however, with quite a few of their offerings still available there.  The Sun and Moon bring out the greens and blues in the skirt and top, while blending nicely with the more earthy tones.

It must be something about the holidays – the elegance of a ball, gowns and tuxedos gracing every form, spinning about the ballroom floor?  Doesn’t everyone attend holiday dances in full gowns in Real Life?  Perhaps not… which may be what draws us to such finery here.  In any case, Fi’s Creations brings us an elegant multi-piece gown with a wealth of options to suit the individual.

The shawl is available separately, and comes in opaque, semi-transparent, and transparent textures (I’m wearing the transparent, I always tend to get warm while dancing).

I’ve chosen a rather simple yet elegant accompaniment for Fi’s Beauty – the Summer Leaf collection from Spyralle.  Why summer?  This is the Solstice, after all, a time in the darkest part of the year to celebrate new life, to celebrate the turning of seasons, to look forward to the Sun!  What better augmentation could I choose?

Lastly, a word on the locale of these shots.  This is the lovely  Christmas at Buckingham Palace exhibition, the perfect locale for such fancy dress.

A Fae Find From Fi’s Creations!

I’m happy to announce that I’m joining Fi’s Creations as an official blogger!  Fi has a lovely collection of clothing, landscaping items and home decor.

Fi’s offers this lovely Elven Dress as their hunt gift in the ongoing Elven Forest hunt.  The Hunt runs through the end of December, and is free and gridwide.  You can find a complete list of stops with pictures here.   Fi’s mesh dress comes in the standard five sizes, with a gauzy flexi skirt and matching wings included.

I’ve accessorised with a haku lei from Island Style Designs, and my favourite opal necklace and earrings from Earthstones, which really complements the colouration of the dress.

The included wings are lovely for a photoshoot, but are unscripted and rather rigid to wear in-world.  I thought I’d try replacing them with some of my favourite wings from Fancy Fairy.

A merry old elf

Okay, perhaps not so old… but decidedly merry.  “Naughty or Nice” seems rather overdone at this point… and I really didn’t want to title a post featuring pictures of me “ho ho ho”!

**Glitter has a lovely advent calendar running this month, with gifts available even after each day has gone by!  This offering is a lovely little Miss Santa outfit featuring the dress and corset-style belt.

Boots from Rowena’s Designs and some tights with a colour-change HUD from Baby Monkey (group giftie!) keep me warm against the snowy weather outside.  The tights are offered both in standard layers and appliers for mesh bodies!

Glitter’s outfit includes a hat in multiple sizes, but I have such issues with hats in-world.  I’ve replaced it with a hat-and-hair combination from *ARGRACE*.  This was a giftie from last year, so it may not be currently available.  The colour doesn’t match perfectly, but it’s pretty close, and the hair works so much better.

If you’re willing to futz with the hat/hair problem, the Glitter hat comes in five sizes, and has stars to match the coat.  I’ts really quite lovely!

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t lose more heat through your head than any other bit of uncovered skin – we just tend to leave that part of our body uncovered, resulting in more heat loss.   So whatever your choice, cover up and stay warm out there!

I know, there’s the spirit of season that doesn’t need the fancies, that’s all about being together, about sharing joy and love, good food and good stories.  I love that spirit of the season.

But you know… I love the other spirit of the season.  The parties, the lights, the elegance.  There’s magic in that, too.

While the shawl is combined with the dress, Glitter includes the dress without the shawl, effectively allowing you to remove it for dancing.  Glitter includes five mesh sizes per version (with and without the shawl).  It works very nicely with both SL standard layers and Slink Physique (and presumably other mesh bodies as well).

I was lucky enough to obtain the perfect jewelry for the holiday season from the lucky letter presents at EarthStones.  The Yule choker and earrings look perfect for the holiday soiree!

After seeing this dress, which appears to be specially made for the PoE hunt (not available for sale!), I’m intrigued by the rest of Glitter’s offerings.  This is a remarkable piece, and definitely worth the look!

A Season for Holly

I recently stopped by Blue Moon Enterprises while travelling across SL on the Peace on Earth 8 hunt.  I was pleasantly surprised to not only find their treasure for PoE (to be shown later), but a lovely gown offered as a gift for their group members.

The Lady Sophie is a medieval-inspired gown offered in five mesh sizes.   The gift is in Holly – just my colour – but the gown itself is for sale in five shades, including night (black), ruby (red), royal (blue) and peace (a pale blue-white).  While it’s perfect for a seasonal party, it’s beautiful year-round.

I’ve accompanied Lady Sophie with the POE8 hunt item from Beloved: the Nola choker and earrings.    The Nola has a texture-change HUD with four different jewel textures – aquamarine, diamond, emerald and ruby.  The circlet is part of a lovely set from BL that includes the circlet, arm and leg bands, and a belt.

Gia Aulder at Blonde Moments brings us a lovely sequined cocktail dress, suitable for a classy night out dancing.  The mesh gown comes in five sizes, and includes an optional matching panty (in standard layer and Lena and Maitreya appliers).

The gown is high-cut at the thigh, just perfect for dancing, and the prim bustle moves very nicely, giving just the right flair.

Gia includes a lovely pair of heels matched to the dress with this outfit.  Versions are included for Maitreya and Slink highs, which make me a bit too wobbly.  They’re awfully lovely, though, and I’m tempted to go out and get some Slink High Feet just so I can wear them!

Catseye has a variety of skins to bring out your inner feline!  Some are available as skins, and others as tattoo layers.  The Shadow Cheetah skin comes with standard and Omega applier layers to work with a variety of mesh bodies.  Catseye does have some skins with Digilegs for more feline feet, but others – like Shadow Cheetah – are designed to work with standard SL or mesh feet.

Autumn Spirit

Here we are, nearing the end of November and the leaves here are well off of the trees… and the landscape turns grey and brown from autumn fire that we saw a few weeks ago.

I visited a lovely little autumn sim and was inspired, and thought I’d share both it and a lovely little faerie outfit from  **Angelwing**.

Blue just wrote about Kat’s Retreat, a beautiful little autumn-inspired sim.  There’s a lovely gazebo and a beautiful little pond, just the perfect place to sit back and enjoy the quiet life for a few minutes, a perfect reprieve from the chaos of everyday life.  Please stop by for a visit!

The dress top and leg ribbons are system layers (perhaps Angelwing can be convinced to re-issue with Omega layers?), with mesh ivy accoutrements at the waist and crown.  Angelwing’s outfit comes with wings, but I’ve replaced the included wings Eth wings from Avro.  Avro sadly no longer maintains an in-world store, but their products are still available on Marketplace.   Avro’s wings are lightly scripted, and include simple flapping, but have a wonderful selection of colours available by HUD.

I’ve added a few other accoutrements to the Angelwing outfit – a leafy mask from Spyralle (also with a colour change HUD), and leaves for my hair from Persefona.  The hair is a lovely style from Calico, one of my favourite hairdressers, that I think really favours the overall look.  I really find that it’s the little added details that really make an outfit, particularly one like this, come alive!
