I have a line in my profile that offers help with clothes and appearance to girls new to Second Life.  One of the reasons I can do this is this blog; I know where all the freebies are!  And the second is Scandalize.

You can pick up the Ruth2 body for FREE, which is similar enough to Lara so that most clothes made for Lara will fit, then head directly to the 200+ group gifts available at Scandalize for an instant quality wardrobe.  It used to be L$20 to join the appropriate Scandalize group you needed to pick up these gifts, but apparently that’s now changed and one of their FREE groups will get you all the gifties!

Here’s one of the gifts available.

This dress is so cute with its tattered neck and hemlines.  The dress is separate from the belt and both pieces come with their own HUDs to choose from a myriad of plains and patterns.  Fits include Lara, Legacy, Isis, Freya, and Hourglass.

This may be a first for me: criticism of an outfit from a favorite creator…

Glitzz is running an in-store “Welcome Summer” hunt.  Prizes are easy to find, as they each cost L$25.  There are twenty five of them to chose from.  The hunt runs until June 12th.

I selected an outfit from the hunt poster, a ruffled bikini in dark green and tropical highlights, knowing it would suit my hair color.  I was very happy when I tried it on…

…until I started running through poses looking for one to show you the back of the outfit…

…and experienced significant clipping in nothing more than moderate poses, so much so that I doubted the bikini bottoms had been rigged at all.  The photo below is a very ordinary stand.  In more extreme poses, the entire ruffle is buried.

Usually I’ll call out clipping if I notice it in extreme poses but then I’ll walk around in the outfit to see if day-to-day wear is going to cause the outfit to clip.  I also have a pretty wild dance that I use to test clipping.  If it doesn’t clip on this dance, I can be pretty confident that nothing else will make it clip.  But this bikini bottom failed that test too.

I don’t know if I was unlucky enough to select the only outfit that has an issue, but I’m really glad I didn’t outlay L$625 to buy all the outfits on the hunt.

Updated Wind Sculpt

I’ve been fiddling around with Linden Scripting Language for over nine years now.  It’s an interesting, quirky language, with a huge number of functions in its library (nearly 500).  While I think I know it pretty well, language and library features can always surprise even the most experienced coder.

A week or so ago, I found myself in the position of wanting to be able to rez and derez 64 linked objects.  Previously, I’ve done this by putting a script in the objects to be deleted that listened to the master script and then deleted themselves when told. But…

64 scripts, even though they were very small (about 5 lines of code and less than 6K of memory each), nearly doubled the land impact of my 65 piece object!  There had to be a better way.  And there is.

There are two functions called llSetRemoteScriptAccessPin() and llRemoteLoadScriptPin() that will allow you to load a script to an object on demand and set it to running.  I won’t give you an example here, you can see some at the links to the functions.  All this is leading up to the fact that I have an existing product on MP that also does rez and derez of multiple linked objects, and uses the old method.  Can we use these functions to drop its land impact?  No prize for a correct guess!

This is the BF Wind Sculpt, a kinetic wind sculpture based on Anthony Howe’s Di-Octo.  It rezzes and derezzes its vanes on demand.  With the old system with a script in each vane listening to the support to say “delete yourself”, the object weighs in at 13 LI.  Using the new method, it comes in at 10.  Yay!  If you own a copy, you should now have version V1.3.

Date night

A lot of weekends, Havoc will put out a FREE group gift that’s only available Saturday and Sunday.  I’ve managed to grab a few of these, but mostly I’m too late to blog them, as is the case today… This side laced number probably vanished some time last night.

But this is a reminder for next weekend!

Black only.  Sizes are Lara, Legacy, Freya, Hourglass, and Kupra.

Petry Dress for FF

This dress is a FREE group gift for members of FabFree.  FabFree is of course FREE to join.

There are sizes for Lara, Venus, Freya, Isis, Hourglass, and Physique in the pack.  Also included is a HUD with ten plains and eleven bolder patterns.  I’m looking furry because I was at an event and didn’t bother to change before trying on the dress… plus I love my leopard!

Grease

Yesterday I mentioned I’d found two sort-of-recent group groups at Ghee, a store I used to go to regularly for their gifts until a few years ago.  This is the second gift from December last year.  Please note that Ghee’s group is L$250 to join at the time of writing.

The mini-dress and jacket are separates.  Both pieces are sized to fit Lara, Lara Petite, Freya, Isis, Hourglass, Hourglass Petite, Kupra, Legacy, and Legacy Perky.  There’s even a standard size fitmesh in there for the classic avis.

The jacket is obviously inspired by Oliva Newton John’s iconic leather jacket in the movie “Grease”.  It has some wonderful seam and zipper details.  As with yesterday’s outfit, there’s a little clipping, but you should be able to fix it with your alpha HUD.

If you’ve followed this blog for any time, you know I’m all about showing you quality free stuff.  Not all my group memberships are devoted to finding stuff for the blog however.  I do belong to some groups that are reasonably expensive to join although (whispers) I’ve usually managed to join them on free signup weekends hehe

One of these groups is Ghee.  At the time of writing, it’s L$250 to join.  Up until about 2020, they had regular group gifts and then… something happened.  I’ve visited over the months hoping to see a recent group gift, but to no avail.

Of course you can see where this is going.  I was wondering what I was going to show you today, I decided to run over to Ghee’s store as I haven’t been for six months or more.  And yay!  There are two sort-of-recent group gifts available.  I’ll show you the other one tomorrow.  This one is from January this year.

This long sleeved body suit is sized for Lara, Lara Petite, Legacy, Legacy Perky, Kupra, Kupra Kups, and Reborn.  It shows a little clipping, particularly at the shoulders and elbows, so grab your alpha HUDs.  I’m wearing the hands from Lara in these photos, as the thumb loops are rigged for them, and not for my usual Slinks.

Cat support

Again, I was looking for something else and came across this.  It made me laugh as I’m certainly a cat person, so for L$75 I had to get it!

Sizes are Lara, Lara Petite, Legacy, Legacy Perky, Freya, Hourglass, and Reborn.

  • Top: Tech Support Cat Top by Tastic
  • Body: Lara and Lara Petite add-on by Maitreya

Leilei

Here’s a FREE group gift for members of the teleporthub.com group.  The group is L$10 to join.

I was hunting around for something else and was disappointed by the first shop I went too, but I found this in the same shopping district!  Serendipity!

There are sizes for Lara, Lara Petite, Legacy, Legacy Perky, and Reborn.  There’s no alpha included and you will need your body’s alpha as there is a fair amount of clipping at the arms.
