Persistent storage!?!?

For those of you who have done any advanced programming in LSL, you’ll know that one of the big things missing from the language is that there is no persistent storage mechanism.  For example, you can read a notecard, but you cannot write one from script, so there is no way to store information that will survive a script reset unless you resort to using an external database via http (or other depreciated) functions.

All that might be about to change, as Rider Linden has just created a wiki page called LSL Linkset Data, in which he describes a set of LSL functions for writing, reading, and deleting up to 64K of key/values pairs associated with a linkset.  The memory to support this is not associated with any script memory, so it will survive script resets.  It will also survive object copy and the transfer of the object to a new owner!

This is very exciting news!  Using http to talk to a script on a webserver is slow, and programming it is cumbersome and difficult to debug.  This new functionality is something we scripters have been dreaming of for years.  Let’s hope it’s not just a proposal but the real deal!

Hello sweets!  I’m sorry that it’s been such a long time since I posted.  There seems to be a short supply of nice free group gifts lately, and considering how busy I am in RL, my time for hunts and events is basically non-existent.  I hope I can do better once I get past this RL project.

Speaking of birthdays, the Fifty Linden Friday group is also celebrating their birthday with an event.  It runs until September 8th, and there are dozens and dozens of FREE gifts from the creators, yours for the asking by wearing the FREE FLF group tag.

This first outfit is from The Forge.  I’ve written before about how I get into trouble and buy stuff when I see their displays.  This time I resisted, and just picked up the gift 🙂

The top and bottoms are separates and both are sized for Lara, eBody, and Legacy.  This would make a great base for a sci fi outfit I think.

Uber’s 8

It’s Uber‘s 8th birthday this month, and lots of the creators at the event are offering FREE gifts to celebrate (although most are for some reason offering the gift only if you visit their store, which is tedious if you want to look at all the gifties).

This bodycon suit and gloves is the gift from Tori Torricelli, and can be picked up at their in-world store while wearing the Uber event tag (FREE to join).

There are sizes for Lara, Lara Petite, Legacy, and Legacy Perky.  The gloves are separate from the bodysuit but paired (you can’t wear just one).

A HUD is included with settings for the glitter to make it more sparkly (it’s animated too!), and to hide or show the frills.  There’s also the option of changing the front or back of the suit to fishnet.  This is a very nice gift and will turn heads wherever you choose to wear it.
