What I wear

It’s been ages since I’ve done a full breakdown of what I wear, I haven’t done one since 2020!  Looking back at posts, you see “Lara, GA EG, Slink, Monso” so often you must all think I’m a broken record 🙂  There’s lots more to my look than just these four of course, so let me explain the bits and pieces that help me achieve the realistic look I’m aiming for.

I use the Lara body by Maitreya.  When mesh bodies first appeared on the scene I demoed every single one that was available.  Back then, for me the choice came down to Lara or Venus by Belleza (Freya and Isis didn’t exist back then).  I chose Lara mostly for the ease of use of the HUD, and because I found I could get the shape I wanted fairly easily.

Even before I went Lara, I had Slink hands and feet.  If you wanted a presentable avatar back in those days, replacing the hands and feet of the system avatar was an absolute must.  Mostly because of the number of nail polishes I have for Slink, I wear them to this day.  I only have Slink High and Flat feet, so I use Lara’s feet for mid heels, which I wear often with jeans and shorter dresses.

Nail polish… special occasions sees me looking for special matching nail polishes in my collection, but for day to day, I wear button #8 from a collection called “Sea Deep”.  I’ve had this polish for ages (since 2015!) and it’s my absolute favorite.

Now for some cringe realism 🙂 I have Lara set to BoM, so I can wear system layer body hair tattoos to give my arms a layer of fine hair.  I can’t get that “smooth as a baby’s bottom” look under my arms in RL without irritation, so I have a tattoo for underarm stubble in SL to match.  As a side benefit, this gives the illusion of actual armpits, which avatars just don’t have 🙂  I also wear an applier on the Lara tattoo layer for visible breast veins which we pale skinned redheads are susceptible to.

And speaking of skin, for the longest time I wore a skin from Lumae called Adore Peach, but because Lumae, while being a fabulous skin creator (and a wonderfully generous person to boot) was never considered a main stream creator, it was always difficult to get exact skin tone matches for applier enabled add-ons.  So, back in 2020, I switched to a skin from 7 Deadly s[K]ins called Genie Apricot, and have been wearing that ever since.

Next, I wear a Jennifer mesh head from GA EG.  Similar to my experience with selecting Lara, I must have demoed over 20 heads.  I’ve detailed my mesh head adventure before, so I won’t repeat all that here.  To summarize, my shape is totally custom, and this includes all the settings for Jennifer.  All my shape settings are aiming for a realistic girl next door look, with certainly nothing exaggerated.  While I think my avatar is pretty (I based my look on a real life model after all) I’m not so outrageously glam that it looks silly.

I wear hardly any makeup, except on special occasions.  My standard look only includes a neutral lipstick from the “London” pack by AlaskaMetro.  I also use some subtle green eyeliner to highlight my eyes, which is done using the “Smoky Eyeshadow” add-on for Jennifer.

My eyes were originally freebies from Mayfly.  Sadly, Mayfly no longer has an in-world store.  But you still can purchase the same eyes on the marketplace.  Eyelashes and eyebrows are both done via the Jennifer HUD.

Hair… oh dear… I have absolutely hundreds of hairstyles, they are one of my favorite things to change my look in SL!  Over the years, I’ve gravitated to a couple of favored creators, chief amongst them Monso and Exile.  I favor short hairstyles because they don’t get in the way of the dress or top I’m trying to photograph for the blog.  It’s not like RL where you can just flip your hair out of the way!  For the longest time I was wearing a lovely bob from Monso called Chahong, until I spotted a girl on a beach wearing this hairstyle and I though to myself “that looks like Chahong, except messier” and I clicked and… Monso!  I ran out and bought Ruda2 right away and have been wearing it for at least the last half year.

Is that it? she asks, checking the “Wearing” tab… It looks like it!

Wait!  I have one tattoo that I wear all the time too.  It’s on my right foot (and only when I’m wearing Slink feet, there’s no applier for Maitreya).  Lilies happen to be my favorite flower.

Here’s a list of all the items I wear on a day to day basis.

Return of the Roaring 20s

Aloha kākou!  Hello everyone, I’ve been having a lovely summer, with some nice time spent on the islands and some time spent working on some projects, but I’m back and excited to share some things with you!

This weekend the Sisters of Eden held a flapper party, capturing the spirit of the Roaring ’20s.  I’d had this lovely dress from Silvan Moon Designs, Ain’t Misbehavin, that I’d blogged before.  But since that time, I’d found a few new jewelry pieces and some much better hair, so I thought I’d share them with you.

The shot above uses the Flux pose set from ecru poses.  I picked it up at The Liason Collaborative recently, and they’re just a lot of fun!

The hair is definitely the biggest improvement over the old pics!  no.match has some amazing styles, and no.commission suited me best.  It felt perfect with the outfit — and with my own style.  I replaced the headband that came with Ain’t Misbehavin’ with an improved one, Clara, from Empyrean Forge.  It’s a better mesh and texture.  Yes, I know, the pic below is a bit dark to show it off, but what can I say, I really like the shot anyway.

The rear view really shows off the Petit Vigne back necklace, framed by the scoop back of Ain’t Misbehavin’.  The shot below also shows off the beautiful backseam Nyla stockings from Alaska Metro <3.

The original Ain’t Misbehavin’ post was back in 2016, almost exactly three years ago.  I can’t believe it’s three years old, but it does go to show that just because something is a little older doesn’t mean it’s still not fantastic.  A little updating and I’m ready to dance!

Mahalo!  A hui hou kākou!

I am wearing:

Water colors

This prettily textured dress comes in standard sizes and a single fitmesh size for classic.  Here I’m wearing it on Lara, and it just works.  To walk around or dance in this, I can’t recommend anything other than the system body with the included alpha.

Having said that, it does have nice features, like a really nice eight color texture HUD.  I like purple (what a surprise).

And the big news for this post is that SLink have released their Bento enabled hands!  If you own any of their hand packs, you can go and get a redelivery in their main store for free.  The best news is that the hands work with any Bento pose system (although the new hands come with a HUD and SLink offers static poses for sale at the store).  You can read all the news about this exciting announcement at the SLink website.

I’m using the UNKO Hand Posing system which includes fourteen static and nine “in motion” hand animations and is available for free from the marketplace!

Now, on with the shopping.  TAXI!

New Slink things

If you missed it the other day, Siddean Munro at Slink announced two new foot styles, Kitten and Pointe.  Kitten is midway between Flat and Mid, and Pointe is for pointe ballet shoes.

With this, she has redone and re-released all three other styles, including a redesigned HUD.  A feature of the new HUD (if you buy the two new styles in a promotion I will mention in a sec) is that you can wear one set of feet and change between the styles, similar to how Maitreya feet work.  But this only applies if you opt to buy the two new feet in a pack that includes all five feet.  This currently costs the price of two feet (L$1350) and you get all five!  This offer finishes on April 16th, so be quick if you want to grab it.

For me, I already own the High and Flat versions, and for mids, I use Maitreya.  So for a pair of feet that I would probably only rarely use, I don’t think I will be taking advantage of the offer.  However, for those people that don’t have Slink feet, this is an absolute bargain!

With the new HUD, all the hands styles have also been updated, and the physique body has been updated too.

Here’s a a screenshot of the new HUD that comes with the single foot and hand update.

Note this is two tabs on the same HUD, so screen space is about halved.  You can read all about the updates and offer and see more info on the new HUD at the Slink blog.

Floral denim

Sometimes you just have to escape the seasons, and SL is perfect for that.  It’s always summer somewhere here!  I was looking through my outfits and I came across this one from FA Creations that I realized I hadn’t worn for quite a while.  Cue beach location!

One of the other things I love about taking photos for you, gentle reader, is I get to hunt up some awesome locations to take photograph at.  These shots were taken at Lavender Moon 2 which has a lovely atmosphere.  It’s so nice that I didn’t want to fiddle with lighting for these photos, so forgive me if they’re a little dark.

LotD – What I wore for our anniversary party

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary last weekend, and our wonderful sisters at Eden put on a lovely party for us today!  A special thanks to our great friend Dana for DJing the event!

LotD 2015-09-26

I thought I would let you know what I was wearing for a lovely few hours dancing with Aeon and all our guests.  The beautiful champagne colored dress is from Azul, who makes just the most amazing clothes.  My jewelry is from Beloved, one of my favorite designers in SL.  And hair is A&A, also a fav.

In the second picture, Aeon and I are wearing matching bracelets from JCNY and our ring, which was designed and made by my beautiful Aeon!
