There is sometimes a disconnect between SL and RL, and perhaps now more than ever… but SL gives us the chance to maintain the social contacts that we might be starting to starve in RL right now. So, it’s the weekend, let’s dance, for there is life!

I think that one of my favourite gifts of SL is that it lets me experiment with different personas.  It lets me explore different looks (what would I look like blond?  eeep no). But on the larger sense, what if you could put yourself in another’s skin?  (NO, NOT IN A CREEPY WAY! OMG)

I’ve always loved being a fae in the world… and more recently in the past year or two, a neko… and more recently playing with the most wonderful exotic skins from Fallen Gods.

Beyond the appreciation for a beautiful skin, what does it mean?  I think it’s a chance to see the parts of you that you keep inside, that you don’t let the outside world see… maybe the parts you don’t let yourself see.  The cracks, the breaks, the broken… and the brilliant.

For all of this introspection, what have I learned?

I think a little bit back to the solar eclipse of 2017.  It was the first solar eclipse I’d seen, and I drove hours and hours to get to a place to see it.  I wasn’t disappointed.  A minute and a half of totality… and a lifetime shift in perspective.  All of a sudden… the world felt different… the view of the solar corona, the strange feel of a chill in the air on a humid hot summer day…. a world revealed in the dark.

I think, for me, that every avatar, every look…  is a little slice of what’s inside.  Dark, hopeful, despairing, joyful, twisted, flirty, cross… shining.  Every bit is a part of me, and every bit celebrated.

Even the pain-in-the-butt bits.  (NO, NOT THAT WAY, OMG!)

Happy Aloha Friday, my lovely ones.  For all the pain and hardship, you are beautiful.  I believe in you.

City Lights

Gazing out above the city streets, the glitter of lights…. a different kind of beauty than the shining stars on a moonless night.  A million lights, out there unseen a million lives, a million stories, each one shining bright in its own way.  A million sequins sparkling in the velvet black, bright in a neon glow.

Aloha kākou, my friends.  You may know how much I like the amazing textures that Ally Adventure creates for their fashions.  Demetra is a two-piece top-and-skirt outfit that is available in two different textures, a lighter glitter sequins with gold accents and a darker glitter sequins version with silvery accents.  I opted for the light/gold one.

Demetra is available in fitmesh for all of the major mesh bodies plus five standard rigged mesh sizes.  Ally Adventure appears to no longer have an in-world store, but is still actively producing new clothing and can be found on Marketplace with demos for all their items.  You should definitely pick up the free demo to see how it fits on you — and which texture you prefer.  I’ve been so happy that they’ve been producing fitmesh for the mesh bodies now!

Also a side note, I combined Leela and Squeeze hairstyles from Analog Dog here.  Both are independently wonderful styles, but pairing them gave a huge curly mess that… just felt right.

The real magic of Ally Adventure are the remarkable materials-enabled textures.  The sparkles just have to be seen to be believed.  To my knowledge, every clothing item Ally sells comes with a set of face/body lights that are designed to enhance the sparkle without being too annoying to those around you.

No matter what your view of the world is, stop a moment… bask in the life around you, the shining lights — starlights, city lights, blinking lights — and enjoy the view.

I’ve shared Sparta from Ally★Adventure with you in the past, so I thought I’d show you one of the other lovely products Ally has produced.  Dolphin is a sexy monokini with an amazing reflective (and transparent!) texture.  It comes with appropriately-positioned body lights to show it off just so — without being annoying as so many face lights are.

Dolphin (or nai’a in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi) is available in the five standard rigged mesh sizes.  It appears that some of Ally’s newer items are available in fitmesh, you can be sure I’ll be checking those out!  And you must have a materials-enabled viewer to take advantage of this one… but the sparkle and shimmer are amazing.    You can find free demos of everything at Ally★Adventure, so please stop on by!

A new day

It’s hard to take a leap, sometimes – to do something new when you’re so comfortable with the old.

I have felt that way for a long time regarding certain aspects of SL.  I’ve been encouraged by my good friend Whit to investigate the world of mesh faces (somehow that’s so much easier to say than ‘mesh head’, which just keeps striking me as silly, for some reason.

As I told her, while the money is quite a commitment (to me), I really had a hard time changing my look.  My face is… me.  I’m kinda silly that way.

But take a look at the Kirsten head from Gaeline Creations / [GA.EG].

I’ve blogged this dress before, but it’s not really about the dress (clearly).

I won’t go long into the details of the face/head, but after trying many out (Catwa, Logo, Slink, LeLutka) this one gave me the shape that I’m happiest with, with ease-of-use and flexibility that lets me think of the future.  It comes with its own built-in skins and several makeup options but is also Omega skin and makeup compatible (with the Omega transfer HUD).

One of the aspects I really like is the capability of adding on additional [GA.EG] makeup packs right into the face HUD, no additional HUDs necessary!

Oh, yes – and Kirsten works with mesh or SL eyes – it does not require mesh eyes.  I’m rather happy about that!

Suffice it to say that I finally found a me.. that looks like me.  Hopefully you’ll find it an improvement as well, but not so different from the me you know.  I rather wish Whit had been able to stick around long enough to see that she “won”… but she’ll know, somewhere.  🙂

Bare Fashion with a Shimmer

Materials science is a hot area in the real world, and Advanced Materials in SL isn’t far behind!

I have to show off this fabulous dress from Ally Adventures.  Ally offers a range of clothing featuring this fabric, and each more provocative than the last!

These items do require the Advanced Lighting Model to be activated, so it’s not for the faint-of-cpu, although I have little problem on a range of computers that I’ve tried.  I’d definitely recommend checking the demos first – Ally offers free demos of all her items.  Additionally, transparent clothing leaves no room for alphas, so some adjustment of shape may be called for.

All of the Ally Adventure glitter sequins garments come with a set of personal lights.  These are similar to facelights, but are designed to produce sparkle in the dress.    Night (low illumination) produces a very transparent effect!  These are not for the excessively modest!  My dear friend Whit might be concerned about a lack of decorum, but it does feel good to get this off my chest.

As a nod to some level of modesty, Sparta comes with a thong with multiple texture choices, but the breast is left transparent to view.

For contrast, a view of the same dress under daylight illumination.  The fabric is a bit less shear – external illumination hides (to some extent) the skin beneath.

Ally Adventures features a broad range of clothing with these materials.  I can only say that I think they are worth every linden.  Watch this space for review of others – there’s a very sexy swimsuit that I have my eye on.
